JOM INTIP - Skuad Singapore

Singapore has announced a 20-man strong squad ahead of the Asian Games in Guangzhou, China, after successfully replacing the injured duo of Yaseer Hanapi and Fadhil Noh along with two over-aged players. National captain Shahril Ishak has been included in the side along with Young Lions captain Hariss Harun, who will feature in the first two matches.

“We are pleased that our appeal has been successful. It was a gesture of goodwill on the part of the Asian Games organising committee and we thank them for allowing us to make the necessary chances. Taking into consideration the AFF Suzuki Cup in December, it is a strategic decision to send Izzdin Shafiq and Erwan Gunawan as they fit more into our plans for the matches in Guangzhou,” said team manager, Eugene Loo.

Coach V. Sundram Moorthy, who will be leading the Singapore Under-23 team, also expressed his delight at bringing a full squad of 20 to China. "The majority of this team has been together for a few years now but having Shahril and Hariss is definitely a boost for the team. They have played in high profile international matches and their experience will definitely add quality and leadership to the team. The boys are in good spirits and morale in the camp is high. They are looking forward to the experience and are raring to go,” said Sundram.

Drawn in Group D, Singapore will open their campaign against defending champions Qatar on 7 November before taking on 2002 silver medallists Kuwait on 9 November. Their final Group D game will be against two-time winners, India on 11 November. This is Singapore football’s second successive appearance at the quadrennial games after taking part in Doha 2006.
