Skipper Duric stars for Singapore

Singapore captain Aleksander Duric led from the front with three goals in a warm-up tournament for the AFF Suzuki Cup last week.

The seemingly evergreen Duric, who is aged 40, scored both goals in a 2-0 win over South Korea's under-23 side after earlier finding the net in 2-1 loss to DPR Korea.

The striker turned provider to set up Shi Jiayi for Singapore's goal in their 1-1 draw with hosts Vietnam in a taster for the Group B clash in the AFF Suzuki Cup in December.

The victory over the young Korean outfit saw Singapore finish second behind DPR Korea in the VFF Cup to put a smile on the face of coach Radojko Avramovic.

"The performance of the team (against South Korea’s under-23s) really surprised me. We beat, in my opinion, the best team in the tournament. We played extremely well. The players were disciplined and focused in their tasks and they fully deserved the win against the Koreans," he said.

"I am very happy with some of their performances. Duric scored two goals today and Hassan (Sunny) played very well and this team has the belief that they can play and win against strong opponents."

Vietnam coach Henrique Calisto was given plenty of food for thought as the 2008 AFF Suzuki Cup champions finished last after 2-0 losses to DPR Korea and South Korea's under-23 side sandwiched in between the draw with Singapore.

Phan Van Tai Em scored Vietnam's solitary goal in the three matches, which were played at the My Dinh Stadium in Hanoi which will stage the Group B games in the AFF Suzuki Cup.

Three-time champions Singapore and holders Vietnam also play Myanmar and the Philippines in December.
