Kawin injury blow for Thailand

Thailand's highly rated young goalkeeper Kawin Thamsatchanan could miss the early stages of the AFF Suzuki Cup in December after breaking his hand in a training ground accident at the Asian Games in Guangzhou.

The 20 year old is currently Thailand's first choice 'keeper but the two-time champions have an experienced back-up in Sinthaweechai Hathairattanakool.

Kawin, who plays for Thai Premier League champions Muang Thong United, was injured in a clash with a teammate ahead of Thailand under-23's last-16 match with Turkmenistan.

Thailand won 1-0 after extra-time to set up a quarter-final clash with Japan in the Asian Games, which they lost 1-0. Apart from Kawin, striker Teerasil Dangda and over-age players Nattaporn Phanrit, Suttinun Phukhom and Datsakorn Thonglao feature in both the Asian Games and AFF Suzuki Cup squads.

Although the injury is still being assessed, Kawin is likely to miss the AFF Suzuki Cup group matches against Indonesia, Malaysia and Laos in Jakarta from December 1-8.

Thailand coach Bryan Robson is a big fan of the athletic 'keeper and is trying to arrange a trial for the youngster with his old club Manchester United.
